How do our kidneys work?
The kidneys are very important when it comes to maintaining the balance between water and other substances in the body, however they are not as large organs compared to the intestine or stomach. The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs and are the size of a human fist, located under the ribs and just behind the stomach.
The kidneys play a vital role in our body by filtering blood, removing waste, balancing fluid levels, and maintaining proper electrolyte balance. Throughout the day, blood passes through these organs several times to be purified and keep us healthy.
It is essential to take care of our kidneys to ensure their proper functioning and prevent kidney diseases. Maintaining a balanced diet, drinking enough water and exercising regularly are some of the ways to promote kidney health and ensure that they effectively fulfill their functions in our body.
Take care of your kidneys for a healthier life!

Diabetes
If you have diabetes , your blood sugar level is very high. Over time, that can cause kidney damage. The kidneys are filters that clean the blood. If they are damaged, waste and fluid accumulate in the blood instead of leaving the body.
Kidney damage caused by diabetes is called diabetic nephropathy and is one of the main reasons for kidney failure.

Hypertension
High blood pressure can constrict and narrow blood vessels, eventually damaging and weakening them throughout the body, including in the kidneys.
When this happens, the kidneys cannot remove all the toxins and excess fluid from the body. Excess fluid in the blood vessels can raise blood pressure even further, creating a dangerous cycle and worsening the injury, which can lead to or lead to kidney failure.

Renal insufficiency
When the body retains excess fluid and does not produce the necessary red blood cells , kidney failure develops. If the kidneys are injured and do not function properly, dangerous waste can accumulate in the body, causing an increase in blood pressure. This condition can occur in both children and adults of any age.

What is the job of the Nephrologist?
A nephrologist is the essential medical specialist in kidney health care. Its work focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases that affect the kidneys and their implications on the body.
When your kidneys operate below 60% of their capacity, it is crucial to see a nephrologist to evaluate your condition and receive appropriate treatment. The nephrologist is someone who has the experience and knowledge necessary to effectively address kidney diseases and ensure your well-being.
The nephrologist is the one who should see your diseases when your kidneys function less than 60% (when creatinine is greater than 1.4 in men and 1.3 in women persistently in two blood tests or when there is protein or blood in two urine tests, this in a period of 15 days).
Transplant Protocol
Renal
Kidney transplant is the treatment of choice in chronic kidney disease that is already quite advanced. Compared with chronic dialysis, a transplant improves quality of life and decreases mortality for most patients.
However, not all patients are transplantable, and many require surgery or other treatment prior to inclusion on the Transplant Waiting List. At the same time, patients on the list over 50 years of age or with other diseases, addictions or disorders, and even those who begin dialysis with a permanent venous catheter as vascular access, have a high mortality rate during their stay on the list, especially in those first two years after inclusion on the Transplant Waiting List.
A kidney transplant may NOT be done if you have:
Certain infections, such as TB or bone infections
Trouble taking medications several times each day for the rest of your life
Heart, lung, or liver disease
Other life-threatening illnesses
Recent history of cancer
Infections, such as hepatitis
Current behaviors such as smoking, alcohol or drug abuse, or other risky lifestyle habits
We will gladly schedule your consultation for evaluation and we can start with the Kidney Transplant Protocol once we have all your analyzes and studies for the process.
